Description

Delonghi Utility heater features the heavy duty design that is perfect for many applications. All metal design and roll bars ensure durability and safety. I bought this space heater (on [...] if I remember correctly ...) a year ago for just over $ 18, and as a college student it 's one of the best investments I ' ve made. It worked perfectly fine right out of the box, no fires or smoking and the body stays cool to the touch. That 's because it ' s made of aluminum which dissipates heat very quickly. The only warm part on the body is the grill but I can put my hand on it for a good 20 seconds before it starts to feel uncomfortable. R rThe two power settings are good for Conserving energy. I typically keep mine running on the low setting. The thermostat works fine too, and the anti-tip sensor (which is a pendulum that breaks the circuit if the heater tips past a certain angle) is good for safety. On a side note, I actually disabled the anti-tip sensors by wedging a paper clip between the two contacts. I did this so I could lay the "heater " on its back while setting the mode to "fan only " and use it as a "chillpad " for my laptop when gaming. I wouldn 't recommend the average user to do that ... but it works if you ' re in dire need of a laptop cooling solution (I also had to unscrew the handles so my laptop would sit flat across the grill). r rWith regard to performance, it does a great job of keeping my 10 'x10 ' room warm (which ISN 't all that well insulated to begin with). I recommend turning on the ceiling fan to improve air circulation otherwise you 'll mainly be heating the water a few feet around the space heater because the fan is only about 6 "in diameter. In conjunction with my ceiling fan, it heats my room in 5 to 10 minutes. (For anyone curious about how it improves my gaming experience, I 'm using a Dell Latitude D820 - which ISN ' t designed for gaming at all - and I 'm able to run Left 4 Dead at 30 FPS. The game turns into a slide show after about 5 minutes of game play without the "heater "). r rHopefully this will offset the 2 poor reviews since it sounds like they received a couple bad eggs. .. r rOverall, I 'd recommend this space heater.

I didn 't really buy through Amazon, but I saw it in an outlet and bought there because it is for selling cheap and I need something for the basement. R rWell Low and behold, his VERY HOT to the touch and it smoked. Mind you I had it in a strong unfinished basement floor (not a rug). Although I didn 't test it, i ' m pretty that fire is a search led to put a rug or semi-near any flammable items. I had to let it cool for sometime before I can move it. I finally ended up junking it.

1. The heater ignited the first time I've used. Less than two minutes after the heating coils lit: "pop " flames and smoke. Buy this scene: a fire extinguisher. I didn 't have to use, but was glad to possess. R R2. The handle is articulated, but it does not stand as shown in photo. Instead, it sets against the heater, so you have to touch the hot metal when picking up (like when the heater is on fire). R r3. Requires a dedicated outlet - the second socket of the outlet may not be used. Which I presume is a "security feature, but don 'is feasible in an apartment.
